Hospitality House Surpasses Feinstein Challenge Goal, $81,500 Raised in Food, Funds and Pledges

May 17 2012. The 2012 Feinstein Challenge has come to a close with Hospitality House surpassing its goal and raising $81,500 in their bid to eradicate hunger in the High Country. A record number of individuals, schools, businesses and churches came together to put Hospitality House over the top in food, funds and pledges. Elementary school food drives, special church offerings and unique collaborations like the ASU Hunger Games and High Country Wedding Expo made it all possible.

“We are certainly pleased to have exceeded our goal, states Hospitality House director of development Todd Carter. “The total represents 270 individual donations over the two month period, $73,000 in funds, $6250 in food and $2150 in pledges.”

This is the fourth year that Hospitality House has partnered with the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation, who will divide $1 million among hunger-fighting organizations across America, to help those in need. Since 1991, over 2,000 agencies nationwide have used the Feinstein Challenge to raise over $1.25 billion, making it the most successful grassroots campaign to fight hunger in the United States.

Hospitality House remains on the frontlines fighting hunger in the High Country every day. Their Bread of Life Community Kitchen averages nearly 11,000 meals each month, feeding any and all who are hungry and their Food Box Program, open seven days a week to serve the un- and underemployed, continues to see an astronomical increase in need.

Hospitality House executive director Lynne Mason reiterates, “With a poverty rate of 25% (10 times the national average,) an average median income $20,000 below a living wage and one-in-four children going to bed hungry, we are working harder than ever to eradicate hunger, homelessness and poverty in our region.”
