Hospitality House Presents the Second Annual Struttin’ Our Stuff Fashion Show at the Meadowbrook Inn

May 3, 2013. The 2nd Annual Struttin’ Our Stuff Fashion Show, presented by Hospitality House, in conjunction with Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, will take place May 9 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock.

Benefiting Hospitality House and featuring fashions from Goodwill retail locations in Boone and West Jefferson, the Struttin’ Our Stuff Fashion Show is primed to be bigger and better than last year’s inaugural affair.

Hospitality House Development Director Todd Carter said the 2012 event raised $5,000 for Hospitality House.

“The first time around surpassed our expectations and was a success,” he said. “We are very excited that this year’s show is taking place at the Meadowbrook Inn, a wonderful venue that provides us the opportunity to double ticket sales.”

Emily Stallings, who helped organize the fashion show with the Hearts of Hospitality (a women’s auxiliary group that provides fundraising support to Hospitality House) said last year’s event was a great time for all involved. She said many people in the audience went home with new wares.

“I bought a white coat last year at the fashion show and last week when I was out of town at a big event people would ask, ‘Where did you get that coat?’ Stallings said. “It is fabulous and I would smile and say, ‘Goodwill!’”

While 100% of proceeds will go to Hospitality House, Stallings said, the Struttin’ Our Stuff Fashion Show brings attention to Goodwill and the outstanding products it has to offer.

“Of course it is about raising money but it is also to raise awareness of the need to support the Hospitality House and Goodwill,” she said. “I can’t think of a better way to have fun and give back to two charities that need our support.”

The event, hosted by Gwen Dhing, will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, 50/50 raffle and a cash bar. The fashion show will commence at 7 p.m.

Several local celebrity models will walk the runway, including Dhing and her husband Ronald of Makoto’s Japanese Steak House, Father David Brzoska of St. Elizabeth of the Hill Country and his furry friend, Pastor Roy Dobyns of First Baptist Church of Boone, Pastor Derek Boggs of Grace Lutheran Church, Banner Elk mayor Brenda Lyerly, and Frank and Kay Borkowski.

Tickets are $25, with limit of 300 tickets to be sold for the event. Tickets may be purchased at the Boone and West Jefferson Goodwill locations, Hospitality House in Boone, or online at www.hospitalityhouseofboone.org. A $5 discount will be awarded in exchange for an in-kind donation to either the Boone or West Jefferson Goodwill locations prior to May 9.

Hospitality House, a non-profit crisis agency, serves seven counties (Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey) in northwestern North Carolina helping those living in crisis, poverty and homelessness rebuild their lives.
