Horn in the West Receives Anonymous $200 Donation

June 25, 2012. The Horn in the West family is overjoyed to announce that an anonymous donor gave $200 following the performance Saturday night. After each show, Darrell King, who plays Rev. Isaiah Sims and has been with Horn in the West for 25 years, asks the audience to contribute any “pocket change or spare $100 bills” on the way out.

On Saturday night, an anonymous donor placed two spare $100 bills in the hat of actor Taylor Hauck, who had been thanking audience members as they left the amphitheater. Hauck and her fellow cast members agreed that it was a tremendous joy to have such a generous donation from someone who saw the value in the history of Watauga County.

Each week the end-of-show donations benefit a different nonprofit. This week’s benefactor was the Southern Appalachian Historical Association (SAHA). SAHA is the nonprofit responsible for the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum and Horn in the West. The Hickory Ridge Homestead offers guests a glimpse into Appalachian history. Visitors are able to walk through historic log cabins and visit with interpreters in traditional clothing as they perform tasks typical of the mountain settlers.

This charitable contribution will allow for repairs to be made to both the museum and the amphitheater that will help to preserve these Appalachian treasures.

“I’m overwhelmed that people are so generous” said Hauck.
