Grandfather Home for Children Hosts Artist Festival with Bubbles, Balloons and a Train Tour Around Campus

July 19, 2012. On Saturday, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Grandfather Home for Children Artist Festival will be held on the Banner Elk campus, located on Hickory Nut Gap Road. The public is invited to join us for artist demonstrations, live music, food, children’s events and train tours around the campus. Admission is free.

Artists from Asheville and as far away as Virginia and Florida, will be selling their wares. The Village Potters, out of Asheville, will be inviting the public to assist in creating a one-of-a-kind handcrafted work, which will later be donated to Grandfather Home for the Golf Classic Auction on September 23. There will be a Mini-Putt 5 hole golf course, a bubble table, a Space Lazer Maze and a Mega Slide/Climb Wall and Bounce House for kids of all ages. Twist the Balloon Man will be making some of his amazing balloon creations as well as performing his magic show. Jonathan Graves, author of Isabella Propeller and Frances Pulliam, author of Skampy the Lonely Skunk will be signing their children’s books.

Two of the artists, Barbara Mallett from Virginia and Melanie Robertson, with the Village Potters in Asheville, will be coming to campus the day before to offer classes to the residential children.
