Oct.3, 2012. Thursday Oct. 4 from 6 to 8pm at Serves You Right! at 1179 Main Street in Blowing Rock Ginny McCormack will sign her latest cookbook “Sunday in the South.”
McCormack is a cooking instructor, food columnist, author, editor of online magazine “Food Lover,” host of her website GinnyMcCormackCooks.com and a regular television presenter.
“When she does book signings she usually tries to support local women’s groups,” said Executive Director of the Appalachian Women’s Fund Parker Stevens.
Owner Karyn Herterich was a founding member of the Appalachian women’s fund and had the idea that the Appalachian Women’s Fund and the High Country Women’s Fund could work together on the event and split the proceeds.
“Its been very rewarding to work with them on this,” Stevens said.
Ten percent of the book sales as well as ten percent of proceeds from anything sold in the store that night will go towards the two groups. Both organizations raise funds and work with area non-profits to support issues critical to local women and girls.
“A large part of what we do is fundraise throughout the year for partner agencies like OASIS and hospitality house as well as organizations in Alleghany, Ashe, and Avery county. In conjunction with our grants we have volunteer projects aimed at filling in the gaps of partner agencies when they feel like they can’t take on a particular project. We can try to design a volunteer project and utilize our members and supporters and get them involved to fill in those gap,” Stevens said.
The event will feature wine and cocktails as well as recipe samples from McCormack’s cookbook.
