Gearing Up for Its 62nd Consecutive Season, ‘Horn in the West’ Will Open for 2013 Season Tomorrow

June 27, 2013. As the third-oldest outdoor drama in the United States, “Horn in the West” draws audiences from far and wide. This year, the opening day is slated for June 28. 

horn3The show runs Tuesday through Sunday, at 8 p.m. through Aug 17 at the outdoor amphitheater on Horn in the West Drive with a pre-show at 7:30 featuring period songs sang by the cast. This drama, which premiered in 1952, has delighted audiences of all ages with the story of the Revolutionary War. 

The show will feature Joseph Watson as Daniel Boone, Ryan Gentry as Dr. Geoffrey Stuart, Darrell King as Reverand Sims leading up to his 1,000th performance on July 14, Abbey Lipe as Martha Stuart, Lauren Longyear as Widow Howard, Brendan D. Westerfield as Captain MacKenzie and Stephanie L. Ramsey as Nancy Ward. 

For ticketing during the Horn in the West season, there are many levels. 

“Opening weekend is Watauga County night when Watauga Country county residents can get in for only $8, less than half of the regular ticket price,” said  Michelle Ligon, chair of the board of Southern Appalachian Historical Association.

Opening weekend will also serve as a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Daniel Boone Wagon Train by having author Randell Jones on property with copies of his book “Daniel Boone Wagon Train: A Journey Through the 60s”. 

There will also be a horse drawn covered wagon on site on opening night for pictures. 

VIP Package is $34 for adults and children 12 and under cost $24. This level includes Gold Level Seating, complimentary rain insurance, souvenir program, VIP lanyard, guided museum tour, Daniel Boone Native Gardens admission, a special gift, a seat cushion, popcorn and a drink.
Gold Level Seating for adults is $25 and children 12 and under get in for $13. This seating includes the first few rows of upper or lower center sections.  Tickets for General Reserved seating is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under.
