Gas Dips To $1.88 in Boone Before New Year

Several gas stations in the High Country began selling gas at the $2-per-gallon mark earlier this month and heading into the final stretch of 2015, gas is even cheaper. The Carolina Petro near Staples on Blowing Rock Road, for example, is selling gas for $1.88 on Wednesday.

The past month of prices below $2 per gallon in and around Boone is likely the first time that’s happened since during the Great Recession in late 2008 and early 2009, according to GasBuddy.com charts.

FIXE_0028-1Another gas tracking website, NorthCarolinaGasPrices.com notes that Carolina Petro near University Hall Drive in Boone is among several gas stations selling in that range in and around Boone.

Banner Elk stations in Avery County are also selling gas below $2, but Ashe County, which historically features lower gas prices than Watauga County, has a few gas stations are selling gas at the $1.70 mark, and stations atop Roan Mountain, which has a less gas tax in Tennessee, is even selling gas for about $1.67.

According to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report, one gallon of gas in North Carolina is averaging about $1.94. This compares to the national average of regular gas that hovers just at $2 per gallon.
