May 15, 2014. It’s one of the best times of the year for High Country bibliophiles. The Friends of the Watauga County Library’s annual Book Sale is set for May 15-17 at the Boone Mall.
The annual book sale is a three-day sale featuring a variety of books for every taste. The sale will begin on Thursday, May 15 for Friends of the Library members and the sale will be open to the general public on Friday, May 16 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Most hardbacks will be $1 and post paperback books will be 50 cents with higher prices on some books.
The books for sale will include paperback and hardback fiction, history, hobbies and crafts, academics, biographies, cookbooks and much more that were donated to the library.
“People donate books to us and they all go to the sale,” said Monica Caruso, County Librarian.
“All the money goes toward the library and there is a whole list of things that the Friends of the Library helps support. Last year the sale made just under $6,000.”
If you are not a member of the Friends of the Watauga County Library organization, not to worry. A membership table will be set up so patrons can become members for just $5. Once you have joined, you can shop the book sale on the special members-only day.
On Saturday, May 10, the library will also honor the late Evelyn Johnson who served as a library at the library for 37 years before tragically passing away in January 2013. To celebrate her life and to commemorate her contributions to the library, the Appalachian Regional Library will name a meeting room in her honor at 2 p.m.
