Sept. 6, 2013. On Friday, Sept. 6, downtown Boone will be taken over by the monthly First Friday Art Crawl. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And, as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month.

Where to Go:

Art Mart on King Street: Art Mart, which recently relocated to its new King Street location, will use First Friday Art Crawl as a fantastic night for their official grand opening. Refreshments will be served as guests explore the new location and store layout, and mingle among art supplies, pieces and more. Art Mart is located at 681 King Street across from the downtown Post Office.

The Jones House: As always, the Jones House, located at 604 West King Street, will host their Friday Night Concerts at the Jones House featuring Kim France, Jon Davis, the Dashboard Hula Boys and Lazybirds. Keep in mind, however, that this week’s concert begins at 4:30 instead of the usual 5 p.m. kickoff. In addition to the concert, the Jones House will be hosting the grand reveal of the “Visions of Peace” exhibit as part of the International Day of Peace monthlong celebration.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts: The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, located at 423 West King Street, will host a grand opening celebration of the exhibit “Hugh Morton: An Uncommon Retrospective.” This collection of photographs from the beloved, late local photographer showcases his lesser known photographs depicting the world as he knew it throughout his lifetime.

Lucky Penny: For the Art Crawl this month, Lucky Penny will host Laura Guidry, creator of the jewelry line Elgie. Elgie is known for making pieces of wearable art that make a statement with sass influenced by structure, color and architectural renderings. Lucky Penny is located at 693 West King Street.

Shear Shakti: Shear Shakti, located directly above Lucky Penny at 693 West King Street will be offering guests refreshments along with an art showcase.

Murphys: Located at 747 W. King St.
Murphy’s will be open until 3 a.m.

Char: Located at 179 Howard St.
Char will be open until 2 a.m. with the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. this evening.

Anna Bananas: Anna Banana’s, located at 641 West King Street, will be hosting facepainting by Claire Bilbao alongside wine from glug and snacks provided by Char.

Art Walk: Come check out all kinds of artwork and crafts from artists and crafters from all across the High Country. You’re sure to find something unique every time you step through the doors. Art Walk is located at 611 West King Street.

Gladiola Girls: Located at 549 West King Street, Gladiola Girls will be offering refreshments and hosting watercolorist Gail Champion.
