First Friday Art Crawl: Downtown Boone Comes Alive With the July Edition of This Evening Tradition

July 10, 2014. Well, it’s not quite the first Friday, but this Friday is Art Crawl due to the holiday weekend last weekend. On Friday, July 10, downtown Boone will be taken over by the First Friday Art Crawl. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month.

Where to Go:

Jones House Community Center
The Buck Haggard Band and The Buck Stops Here will perform at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center on Friday starting at 5 p.m. for a free concert featuring classic country and traditional string band roots sounds to the “First Friday” festivities in downtown Boone. For more information about the series please visit www.JonesHouseCommunityCenter.org or call 828-268-6280.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is located at 423 West King St. in Boone. On Friday, July 11, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, located on the campus of Appalachian State University, will host the Summer Exhibition Celebration. The event will be held from 6-10 p.m. at the Turchin Center as part of the lineup for An Appalachian Summer Festival. Admission for the event is free and the public is invited to attend. For more information, please call 828-262-3017. 

Art Mart & Academy

Located at 681 W. King St., Art Mart and Academy be taking a break from Art Crawl this month but looks forward to being back for the August event. 

Art Walk
Located at 611 West King Street, Art Walk will feature Renaissance Glass out of Asheville with refreshments for the evening. For more information, contact Art Walk at 264-9998. 

Anna Banana’s

Anna Banana’s on King Street will be offering refreshments by Char and facepainting by Claire Bilbao. In addition, Henna artist Maria Perry will be present. 

Benchmark Provisions

Benchmark Provisions, Boone’s downtown community market will he hosting a wine tasting during art crawl. Benchmark is located at 122 S. Depot St. in Boone. For more information click here

Doe Ridge Pottery
Doe Ridge Pottery, located at 585 West King Street will be open for studio tours along with demonstrations from studio participants who will be actively working on pieces during the Art Crawl. For more information, contact Doe Ridge Pottery at 828-264-1127.

Old World Galleries
Old World Galleries, located at 697 W. King St will feature artists Wes Waugh, Jane Miller, Gaines Kiker and Morgan Shaw and their beautiful selection of fine and estate jewelry. Wine will be served to guests. For more information, contact Old World Galleries at 828-264-6559.

Anna Banana’s
Located at 641 West King Street, Anna Banana’s will offer refreshments from Char and Glug As always, customers can dance for a 10-percent discount on merchandise! For more information, call 828-865-2000. 

Char
Located at 179 Howard St.
Char will celebrate Art Crawl with a buy one get one special and a wine special as well. Char will be open until 2 a.m. with the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. Friday evening. For more information, call 828-266-2179.
