First Friday Art Crawl: Downtown Boone Comes Alive With the April Edition of This Evening Tradition

April 4, 2014. On Friday, April 4, downtown Boone will be taken over by the third First Friday Art Crawl of the year. Like always, this month’s crawl will feature food, drinks and live music with work and exhibitions from local artists. And as usual, everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Friday night fun. If you’ve never experienced First Friday Art Crawl, here is your chance to get in on what the locals already know! Head on down to downtown Boone and enjoy a Friday night out on the town. Here’s what is happening this month.

Jones House Community Center


The Jones House Community Center, located at 604 West King Street, will host exhibits from three artists for the Art Crawl this month. In the Mazie Jones Gallery, Steve Zoufaly will be showcased, who primarily works in discarded objects (scrap metal, fallen trees). In Upstairs Gallery One, the Jones House will feature painter Thom Jones whose paintings emphasize Caribbean influence and whose work is accompanied by poems. Finally, in the Upstairs Gallery Two, painter Sea Lowder will be featured. For more information, call 828-262-4576.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, located at 423 West King St. in Boone will host the free Spring Exhibition Celebration from 6-10 p.m. In addition, the Turchin Center will also host a public reception for the Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition. The reception will be open to the public and will include live music and refreshments for all in attendance to enjoy. For more information, please call 828-262-3017.

Strands Beads/Bald Guy Brew
Elkland Art Center’s annual Trash N’ Fashion show will be held at Strands Beads/Bald Guy Brew located at 585 W. King Street. Trash n’ Fashion is a runway show where designers are tasked with making something beautiful out of a business’s refuse. Items like paper, plastic and other dumpster-bound items are remade and repurposed into incredible pieces of wearable art, and all benefitting a great cause. For more information, call 336-877-5016.

Art Walk
Located at 611 West King Street, Art Walk will feature jewelry from Stuart Nye Studios with refreshments for the evening. For more information, contact Art Walk at 264-9998.

Doe Ridge Pottery
Doe Ridge Pottery, located at 585 West King Street will be open for studio tours along with demonstrations from studio participants who will be actively working on pieces during the Art Crawl. For more information, contact Doe Ridge Pottery at 828-264-1127.

Art Mart Academy
Located at 683 West King Street, Art Mart will present Emily Proschuto, an Appalachian State University alumna, with light refreshments for guests. For more information, call Art Mart at 828-264-3135. 

Old World Galleries
Old World Galleries, located at 697 W. King St will feature artist Jane Miller as well as their beautiful selection of fine and estate jewelry. Wine samples will also be featured from Grandfather Vineyard and Winery. For more information, contact Old World Galleries at 828-264-6559.

Art of Oil
Art of Oil, located 819 West King Street will feature live music, a wine tasting, oil tasting and refreshments from 6-8 p.m. The live music will be provided by Annie Johnson. Anna Banana’s 
Located at 641 West King Street, Anna Banana’s will offer refreshments from Char and Glug. As always, customers can dance for a 10-percent discount on merchandise! For more information, call 828-865-2000.

Char

Located at 179 Howard St.
Char will celebrate Art Crawl with a buy one get one special and a wine special as well. Char will be open until 2 a.m. with the restaurant closing at 10 p.m. Friday evening. For more information, call 828-266-2179.

Yosefa AntiquiTEA
Yosefa AntiquiTEA, located at 161 Howard Street, will feature belly dancing performances from 8:30- 9 p.m. and will provide refreshments for guests. For more information, call 828-264-0068.
