Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, Dulcimer, Flatfoot Dancing: Summer Music Lessons at the Jones House

April 18, 2012. The Watauga County Arts Council is now enrolling for summer music lessons at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center in downtown Boone. Lessons are open to all ages, kids and adults, with a focus on playing levels from rank beginner through intermediate. Weekly group lessons will be offered in three 5-week sessions on Thursday afternoons and evenings (4:30, 5:30, 6:30 depending on the class).

Session 1: May 24-June 21
Session 2: July 5-August 2
Session 3: August 9-September 6

Instructors this summer will include Cecil Gurganus, John Cockman, Trevor McKenzie, Brandon Holder, and Amanda Spencer. They are all well-versed in traditional old-time and bluegrass playing styles, and they are all experienced teachers.

Instruction will be offered in fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, and flatfoot dance. Each 5-week session costs $50. Rental instruments are available for $10 per session.
