F.A.R.M. Café Holding Pop-Up at Green Valley School, Brings Summer Harvest To Area

With summer coming to an end, F.A.R.M. Café is excited to bring community and fresh food to the Green Valley School in Boone, N.C. on Sept. 19, 2015. The local donate-what-you-can eatery will be partnering with Grace Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church in hosting a Pop-Up Event at the cafeteria of Green Valley School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Members of the two local churches will be on hand as volunteers and hosts.

F.A.R.M. stands for “feed all regardless of means,” which reflects the Cafe’s mission of eliminating hunger in the High Country. Each day at their King Street location in the original Boone Drug store the nonprofit welcomes anyone in the community to come and enjoy a nutritious and delicious lunch regardless of ability to pay.

F.A.R.M. Cafe seeks to bring this model of welcoming and including all that exists at the King Street location to other regions of the High Country by hosting Pop-up events at various locations in Watauga and surrounding counties. This will be the first time that F.A.R.M. Café has hosted a Pop-Up event at Green Valley School.  Previous Pop-ups have been held in at the Todd Mercantile and Brookshire Park.

For the F.A.R.M. Café Pop-up event, staff and volunteers will travel to and set up a lunch service similar to the weekday lunch served at the downtown Boone location. Lunch will follow the “donate what you can” method used daily at the Cafe. A suggested donation range will be posted for the lunch plate which includes entrée, sides, salad, dessert, and drink.

Those who are able to live are encouraged to donate within the suggested range or give a little more to help neighbors in need. Those unable to donate money are invited to donate their time in exchange for a meal.  Regardless of means or ability to donate time or funds all are invited to come enjoy the fellowship and freshly prepared food.

Plans are in process for F.A.R.M. Pop-Up Cafés to be held on Saturdays in various small communities throughout the High Country at community centers, fire stations, schools, or churches. For more information and to view the daily menu, visit farmcafe.org or their Facebook page.

F.A.R.M. Café is located in the old Boone Drug building and is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It is a nonprofit, donate-what-you-can community kitchen that strives to build a healthy and inclusive community.  F.A.R.M. Café provides delicious and nutritious meals produced from local sources when available, served in a community cafe where everybody eats, regardless of means.
