March 2, 2012. BOONE — Get ready for new and exciting exhibitions for the month of March at the Jones House. Tonight the Watauga Arts Council, located in the Jones House at 604 W. King St. will have open exhibits and a reception from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. with refreshments. This event is open to the public. This is a great opportunity to welcome these talented artists to the Watauga County Arts Council.

The Mazie Jones Gallery will feature Frank “Buddy” Vaiden — an accomplished artist and photographer, and author of several books. He promises a very intense and challenging exhibit as his unique and colorful works of art tell his personal story. His latest progression has been in “gravelart” and “knifecut” techniques.

Buddy describes his background in a very simple and unique way, “what lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside you.”

The Open Door Gallery will welcome Joe Bigley from Appalachian State University and his casting students. The works featured in this exhibition are sculptural forms that involve the casting process. Artists featured include students and faculty of the Appalachian State University Art Department, as well as local artists working in casting materials. Cast bronze, aluminum and iron will be included in the exhibition in addition to experimental or unconventional materials. Casting Call will exhibit a range of sensibility of forms and content.

The Serendipity Gallery presents the “Winter Waves” exhibit during the month of March. Marsha Holmes and her students have been busy putting together a new collection of student work as winter waved through the High Country!

Mary Flinn, author of The One, Three Gifts, and Second Time’s a Charm, will be present to sign books at our March 2nd Gallery Reception.
