Every Family Has a Story; Learn How to Find Yours at the Brinegar Family Celebration on the Parkway

The Brinegar Cabin

Aug. 7, 2012. Every family has a story to tell – and to remember. On Saturday, Aug. 11, the National Park Service will celebrate those stories at the annual Brinegar Celebration at the Brinegar Cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In the “Old Timers Tent,” participants will be able to visit with members of local historical societies and meet descendants of Martin and Caroline Brinegar. Ranger/historian Mike Ryan will give a presentation on collecting and preserving one’s own family and community’s history at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Brinegar Cabin is at milepost 238 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Doughton Park, about 8 miles south on the Parkway from the Route 21 intersection.

For further information, call Park Ranger Jackie Sloop at 336-372-1947.

These activities are offered free of charge through support of The FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway organization. For more information on this Blue Ridge Parkway partner, contact 800-228-PARK (7275) or www.BlueRidgeFRIENDS.org.
