March 22, 2012. BOONE — Student musicians from Appalachian State University’s Opera Theatre will perform Englebert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” on March 29 through April 1.The performances will take place in Rosen Concert Hall located inside the Hayes School of Music on the Appalachian State campus. The performance will last approximately two hours with a brief intermission. They begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $6 for all students. Tickets are $12 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Farthing Auditorium Box Office on Appalachian’s campus, by telephone at (800) 841-2787 or (828) 262-4046, online, and at Rosen Concert Hall before each performance.
Musicians from the Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will be performing with the world-renowned conductor, Cornelia Laemmli Orth.
Cornelia Laemmli Orth is in her fifth season as music director of the Symphony of the Mountains. During the 2010/2011 Season Cornelia served as interim music director of the Appalachian Philharmonia and the Appalachian State University Opera Program in Boone, NC. The Jupiter Symphony, Planets, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, and Rozsa’s Viola Concerto were some of the highlights of this season. Cornelia a native of Switzerland is fluent in German, English, Italian and French.Cornelia convincingly combines the classical-romantic tradition of her old world origins with the unique American, and particularly Appalachian, flavor that the international background and the extensive working experience in her adopted country has provided her with.
