Oct. 4, 2012. “A Log’s Life,” by W. Pfeffer, is a wonderful story telling the life cycle of a tree. Come listen to the story on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m., then take a short hike to discover a log’s life up close. Learn about the forest ecosystem and how all things are connected. This program is designed for children ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. Meet at the park office for this family-friendly program. Wear comfortable shoes and dress to be outdoors.
There will be an astronomy program during the month of October of which the date and time are to be announced.
Mark your calendar for every Saturday in October, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and come to Volunteer Work Days at Elk Knob State Park. Meet at the Summit Trail parking lot. No experience is needed. The park will supply all tools. You will need to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes (no flip flops or sandal-style shoes are permitted), work gloves and any snacks or drinks (non-alcoholic) you will need throughout the workday. Work can include: digging up roots or soil to create the trail tread, moving rocks, building a rock wall and other similar tasks. It’s fun and also a great way to give back to the area.
