The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into a deadly shooting that occurred in Ashe County, specifically at 809 Shatley Road in Crumpler, on Wednesday night.
Dallas Shatley, 62, was shot and killed by deputies with the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office. When officers were called to a disturbance at about 10 p.m. that night, officers said that Shatley jumped in his car and drove away – all the while dragging an officer with him. Shots were then fired.
According to reports, body cameras worn by the three deputies who responded to the scene recorded the entire incident. While the SBI investigates, the three deputies were placed on paid administrative leave.
Shatley, who wasn’t unknown by local law enforcement, was previously charged with damage to property and communicating threats several times in just the last year, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety offender database.
