Critter Magazine Pack Walk for the High Country Homeless Pets Saturday, Sept. 29

Sept. 26, 2012. Critter Magazine Pack Walk for the High Country Homeless Pets will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting at Green Mother Goods in downtown Boone. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for the homeless pet crisis in the High Country.

Registration for the walk is $5 but anyone receiving walk sponsorships of $20 or more may walk for free. Registration and sponsorship forms may be picked up at the walk, or beforehand at Mountain Dog and Friends in Foscoe or Animal Hospital of Boone or by emailing crittermagazineboone@gmail.com. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Leashed and vaccinated dogs are welcome. The walk will be two miles around Boone at your own pace and will end with a gathering back at Green Mother Goods. An adoption event will follow the walk with a celebration and raffle to benefit the participating shelters and rescue groups.

The Pack Walk is a national event sponsored by North Shore Animal League America, Cesar Millan and Scooby Doo, as well as animal-friendly businesses and organizations in the High Country. The local event will be held the same day as the National Pack Walk in Washington D.C., and will also serve as a kick-off event for more cooperative efforts between the shelters and rescue groups in the High Country. The ultimate goal of the walk is to end euthanasia as a form of population control for all adoptable shelter pets in the region.
