July 30, 2012. Appalachian State University pole vaulter Cassie Crawford (Apex, N.C./Panther Creek) has been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-academic list for her performances on the field and in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year.
Crawford, who took home 14 top-five finishes between the indoor and outdoor track seasons this past year, was one of 676 NCAA Division I student-athletes nationwide to earn the honor.
In order to be named to the USTFCCCA’s all-academic list, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and place in the top-96 nationally in their event during the indoor season or participate in any round of the NCAA Championships, including prelims, for the outdoor season.
Crawford earned a spot in the NCAA East Preliminaries this season after finishing the outdoor campaign 42nd in the East Region in the pole vault. The rising junior also earned recognition from the Southern Conference and Appalachian State for her work in the classroom this year as she was an academic all-SoCon and Appalachian State Honor Roll member in the spring semester.
