Sept. 28, 2012. The Watauga Cooperative Extension Service will hold a Chicken Harvest Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Agricultural Conference Center in Boone. This workshop is designed for the backyard chicken producer or for anyone interested in raising chickens and harvesting their own meat.
The Cooperative Extension will be using ASU Sustainable Development’s mobile processing unit, but they will discuss equipment needed for small home processing. Margie Mansure, FCS Extension Agent, will demonstrate how to utilize the harvested bird, cut the bird, and make and store stock. The fee for the class is $15 and is due that day. It includes a processed chicken to take home.
Class size is limited, so call 828-264-3061 to register.
