April 24, 2012. Internationally known saxophonist Jamey Aebersold will perform May 2 at Appalachian State University. The free performance begins at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.
Aebersold is an authority on jazz education and improvisation, and has developed a series of play-along book and CD sets as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills.
Aebersold will join Hayes School of Music faculty members Todd Wright, Rick Simerly, Andy Page, Ron Brendle and Rick Dilling for the performance.
The program includes “Not You Again” by John Scofield, “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” by Jerry Brainin, “Just Friends” by John Klenner, “Blue Bossa” by Kenny Dorham and “Have You Meet Miss Jones” by Richard Rodgers.
Then, on May 3, “Cornocopia: An Evening of Music for the Horn” will be presented at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at ASU. The recital features students from the horn studio of Dr. Karen L. Robertson from the Hayes School of Music.
The performance includes the first movement of “Concerto for Horn and Piano, K. 412” by Mozart, “Andante” by Felix Mendelssohn and “Romance” by Camille Saint-Saëns as well as compositions by Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss and Glière.
