Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock Hosts Farm Feast Wellness Dinner and Fundraiser Thursday, Sept. 19

by Madison V. Fisler

Sept. 17, 2013. On Thursday, Sept. 19, Chetola Resort will host a “Farm Feast” themed wellness dinner which will also serve as a partial fundraiser for the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP).

imgres-1The event will consist of a delicious, plant based buffet created by Chetola Resort’s own chef utilizing fresh local ingredients from three area farms including Fishel Organics, Lively Up Farm and Old Orchard Creek Blueberries.

After the dinner, the farmers will hold a post-dinner talk and question and answer session about farming in the High Country.

A portion of the proceeds from the dinner and all of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to ASAP, which seeks to create and expand regional community-based and interacted food systems that are locally owned and controlled, environmentally sound, economically viable and health promoting.

“This is the first time we have combined a dinner with a fundraiser,” said Allison West of Chetola Resort. “We are really excited about this.”

Tickets for the raffle are $5 each or 3 for $10 and can be purchased now at the Front Desk or in the Spa at Chetola Resort. Raffle tickets can also be purchased at the dinner, and you do not have to be present to win. The prize is a Chetola Sampler, generously donated by Chetola Resort, which includes a two-night stay in a Chetola Condo, one cooking class, a five-day fitness pass, one gift card to Timberlake’s Restaurant and one signature massage or facial at their spa.

The dinner is a multi-course plant-based buffet which includes appetizers, dessert, soup, salad and entrees. The menu for the evening is as follows:

Appetizers

  • vegetable rice rolls
  • grilled tofu triangles with mint and strawberry relish
  • roasted tri-colored potato crisps with heirloom tomato and basil jam

Soup

  • butternut squash and apple soup

Salads

  • poached pear and cipollini onion salad
  • olive, caper and green bean salad

Entrees

  • black bean, corn and avocado enchiladas
  • brown rice, tomato and spinach stuffed cabbage
  • jerk tempeh with grilled pineapple and bourbon sauce

Dessert:

  • raw blueberry cheesecake

“Our chef does an excellent job of creating menus from available produce,” said West.

“This vegan buffet will have a great ‘organic feel’ to it. We usually expect between 60-90 people to attend, so it’s important for people to make their reservations in advance.”

Tickets to the dinner are $29.95 until Sept. 16 and $39.95 after Sept. 17. Tickets are all inclusive and include tax and gratuity. Doors for the event open at 6 p.m. for the cash bar. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the after-dinner program taking place at 7:45 p.m.
