The Christmas lights at Chetola are up and ready for the public to drive through or walk through to see, one piece of holiday fun that COVID-19 didn’t take away from people in the High Country.

Chetola’s Festival of Lights around the resort and lake opened to the public on November 29 and will remain open until January 31. As always, the light show is free and open to the public.

“We have almost 30,000 lights this year. New this year is the nativity scene and we also have the dancing lights, which are set to music, those are the two main things this year,” said Tristan Thomas, the social media manager and graphic designer at Chetola Resort. “It has been a tradition that has been going on for a really long time.”

The lights will come on around dusk and stay on until 10 p.m. each night. As a reminder, weeknights typically offer less traffic and wait times to go through the resort. Due to COVID-19 protocols, each person in the vehicle entering Chetola will have their temperatures checked.

If you would like to make a whole evening out of the experience, Timberlake’s Restaurant is open until 9 p.m. each day, and reservations are strongly recommended. There will be live music at the restaurant on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and carry out orders are available as well.

If you have any questions, call 828-295-5500. If you are coming to Blowing Rock to see the lights, the address to type into your GPS is 185 Chetola Lake Drive.
