Red Tomatoes, Rhubarb and Bok Choy, Oh My! Check Out the Watauga County Farmers’ Market Selection

May 17, 2012. This week at Watauga County Farmers’ Market you will be able to find certified organic heirloom tomato transplants – Cherokee purple, red and yellow brandywine, amazon chocolate, chocolate stripes and many others. The market will also have a beautiful red lettuce mix, braising mix (mustard, kale and chard), romaine lettuce and onions from Zydeco Moon Organic Farm.

Delicious chicken pies from Fishel’s Moravian Chicken Pies

Lacinato Kale, Rhubarb Chard, Green and Red Lollo Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Bok Choy, and a variety of Micro Green mixes – all USDA Certified Organic – from Sunshine Cove Farm

Lamb (all cuts available), chicken (whole and breast and leg quarters) and eggs from Mountain Memories Farm 

Cut flowers, including Beautiful Dutch Iris, Ranunculus and Lilac. Vegetable transplants along with Cosmos and Nasturtiums, Lilac and Hydrangea shrubs from Shady Grove Gardens.

Cornmeal, molasses and greens from Against the Grain Farm.

Dwarf siberian kale, georgia southern collards and spring onions. Also, seedlings and transplants all grown to organic standards, ie. celebrity and husky red tomatoes, white wonder cucumbers, okra, de ciccio broccoli, collards and dwarf kale from Bridle Creek Farms.

Baby carrots, limited fava beans, lupine and delphinium stems. There will be a great selection of heirloom tomato plants for $2 apiece as well as herb and perennial 4-packs from Goldenrod Gardens. 

“Pesticide free” green garlic, spring onions, spinach, greens, radishes and lettuce. Free range duck and heritage chickens from Moretz Mountain Orchard.

A good selection of jams, jellies and butters, including Possum Grape Jelly from Granny’s Goodies.

Fresh bagels, sourdough whole wheat sticky buns, Swedish Almond-Cinnamon rolls (kanelbullar), sourdough croissants and pain au chocolat. Bakers Cranberry Granola and Savory Chop Blocks as well. Twelve or more varieties of hearth breads and whole grain sandwich breads for you to choose from: Sourdough Baguettes, Pain au Levain, Whole Grain Miche, Polish Rye, Jewish Rye, Ciabatta, Broom Bread, Sunflower-Sesame-Flax Seed Bread, Austrian Baguettes, Chocolate Babka, Cinnamon Babka, and more from Owl Creek Breadworks.
