Celebrities from Around the High Country Wait Tables April 3 for the Seventh Annual ‘Celebrity Serve’

By Paul T. Choate

April 3, 2012. On Tuesday, April 3, several prominent figures from around the High Country will trade in their day jobs and wait tables at area restaurants to benefit the Watauga County Rescue Squad. This is the seventh year of the Celebrity Serve and 15 restaurants will be participating.

This year’s installment of the event is being coordinated by Boone Independent Restaurants, a newly formed organization consisting of Pepper’s Restaurant and Bar, Makoto’s, Joe’s Italian Kitchen and several other local favorites.

The event is made possible because of the generosity of participating restaurants. All have agreed to donate at least 10 percent of the proceeds from the event to benefit the rescue squad.

Celebrity Serve has been successful during its run, as more than $150,000 has been raised for local organizations. In the past, the event has raised money for several nonprofit organizations such as the Hospitality House, OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Service, Information and Shelter), the Make-A-Wish Foundation and others.

According to Michael Vollmer, of the Watauga County Rescue Squad, the following restaurants and celebrities will be participating:
