Carolina Ballet Presents: A Balanchine Celebration featuring Rubies in An Appalachian Summer Festival

by Madison V. Fisler

July 25, 2013. On Thursday, July 25, An Appalachian Summer Festival will play host to Carolina Ballet Presents: A Balanchine Celebration featuring Rubies at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts at ASU.

carolina-ballet-01-800Rubies is a small part of a larger ballet titled “Jewels” that premiered in 1967. The show is a tribute to one of the most celebrated choreographers of all time, George Balanchine, who was a co-founder and ballet master of the New York City Ballet.

“This ballet is very unique, in that the music is very jazz-like, making it faster and more edgy than a traditional ballet,” said Megan Stage, manager of marketing and public relations.

One of the biggest draws to this show are the striking costumes, which were artfully to represent the bold colors of rubies.

“It is a very striking visual display,” Stage said.

This show will be for one night only, and will be the Carolina Ballet’s only performance in Boone for An Appalachian Summer Festival.

There are still tickets for this show available at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts Box Office. Tickets are available in advance or at the door at the time of the show. Cash or check only are accepted at the door on the night of the performance.

The Carolina Ballet, which hails from Raleigh, is a world class ballet company that has toured the world since 1997.
