Carlton Gallery Hosts 30th Autumn Group Exhibition

Oct. 1, 2012. Autumn in the High Country signals it’s time for foliage in golden yellows, burnt oranges and radiant reds. Carlton Gallery’s 30th Anniversary Autumn Group Exhibition which begins on Oct. 6 also features fine art works with autumn’s majestic palette.

An Artists’ Reception is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. with some of the standing gallery artists in attendance to greet friends, visitors and patrons. Light hors d’oeuvres and community spirit can be enjoyed while viewing the gallery’s collection of fine art in paintings, glass, wood, clay, sculpture, fiber and jewelry. The gallery represents local, regional and national artists working in these various mediums.

Traditional and abstract landscapes abound at the gallery by artists Andrew Braitman, Egi Antonaccio, Kevin Beck, Kate Worm, Helen Farson, Roy Nichols, Jane Desonier, Jossie Fox Nichols, Sharon Rusch Shaver, and Freeman Beard.

Braitman’s “Stillness at the Water’s Edge”, an abstracted landscape rendered in autumn colors of gold, yellow and orange with a slight hint of Carolina blue depicting the water reflects his brilliant use of color and composition.

Antonaccio’s “Fall Evening” is the artist’s interpretation of sleeping Grandfather Mountain in beautiful autumn colors with a glorious sunset in the background. His acrylic painting “Country Garden” of fall flowers, including yellow sunflowers in the foreground with the deep blue mountains under an azure sky in the background is rendered with palette knives.

Beck paints the landscape in a traditional manner using a palette of gold and orange with the blue mountain range in the background. He paints in oils and pastels which allow for a unique interpretation of the landscape.

Nichols’ plein air paintings of mountains, pastures, waterfalls, creeks and roads rendered in his signature shades of green, blue and brown capture on canvas a tranquil landscape which helps to slow down one’s busy life.

The 30th Anniversary Group Exhibition features non-objective abstracts by Edie Maney whose paintings are bold and commanding works of acrylics on canvas with a palette of light gold, green, tan, rust and muted blue. Rainy Day Cityscapes along with bold abstracted landscapes by Gina Strumpf; Horses in oil, acrylic and mixed media by Vae Hamilton and Holly Glasscock are gallery favorites. Local artist, Warren Dennis‘s elongated figurative work strikes a chord of recognition for the viewer, as his paintings are not realistic nor naturalistic, but are a celebration of life – “ordinary people doing ordinary things”. Meticulously detailed Still Life and Tablescapes by Mary Martha McKinley are a new addition to the fine art collection at the gallery and make the exhibition fresh and alluring.

A feature for the 30th Anniversary Group Exhibition is “The Flow of Nature” by Debbie Arnold, a collection of work utilizing her new process of pouring paint in lieu of brushes which she calls “intuitive painting”. Arnold’s exhibition continues through October 21st.

“Chrysalis,” a cast and blown glass sculpture by John Littleton and Kate Vogel is an awesome addition for the 30th Anniversary Autumn Group Exhibition and also commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the studio glass movement started by Harvey Littleton.
