Sept. 13, 2012. Once again it is time for the “Apple Pie/Cobbler Contest” to be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Ashe County Farmers Market on the Back Street in West Jefferson. Look for the events tent on the grassy area just behind the market and bring your homemade pies or cobblers to be judged.
Official Rules for the Apple Pie or Cobbler Contest:
1. Eligibility:
Contest is open to all Ashe County residents.
** Any kind of Apple grown in Ashe County is eligible
2. Requirements:
No store bought pastry shells or fillings. Submit a copy of the recipe with your entry. Use disposable pie tins. The Market will not be responsible for the return of pie plates. No items that need refrigeration or heating will be accepted. Pies or cobblers must be at room temperature for judging. Limit two per contestant.
3. How to Enter:
Bring your homemade apple pie(s) or cobbler (s) to the Farmers’ Market on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, contest day between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Look for the tables under the events tent on the grassy area behind the market. Entry forms will be available there and on line at www.ashefarmersmarket.com.
4. Judging:
The judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be conducted by local judges. Entries will be judged on the basis of taste and appearance.
5. Prizes:
One winner will be selected from each category and awarded a $20 Ashe County Farmers’ Market gift certificate (to be redeemed at the Market only). The winner’s recipe will be printed in the local newspaper.
