June 19, 2012. Registration is open for the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum’s weekly summer camps, which began on June 4 and run through July 27. Each week’s camp will feature a different theme, which the museum designed to appeal to a variety of age groups and interests. The camps will be taught by education and art professionals, and are designed to be both enjoyable for children as well as enriching.

“Summer is a time for young people to have fun and relax, but it is also a great time for growth and discovery,” said BRAHM Programs Coordinator Virginia Falck. “Our camps will be lots of fun, but they will also give children a chance to explore their inner creativity and offer an outlet for expression. We also want participants to learn more about the world around them, both locally and globally, so we have designed camps that expand their horizons and teach them about the history and culture of different people and cultures.”

During the “Illustrate Your World Camp,” June 18-June 22, local graphic designer Leslie Temple will teach participants the techniques and basic fundamentals of drawing using a variety of mediums. Campers will have opportunities to explore the Museum and areas around the town, learning how to draw different aspects of their environment. The class runs from 9 a.m. until noon and is open to ages 7-11. Cost: $105 ($95 for members)

The two-day “‘Grand’ Club” (9 a.m.-noon, June 28-29) is a special camp for grandparents and their 5- to 9-year-old grandchildren. Participants will work together on art projects, creating a special memory that all will treasure for a lifetime.
