Boone Service League Meets Dec. 4

Nov. 28, 2012. The Boone Service League’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the home of Stephanie Allen at 235 Russelton Road in Boone. The league meets the first Tuesday of every month.

Light refreshments and fellowship begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 7 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring an appetizer. Also, bring a new unwrapped toy for Santa’s Toy Box and one or two children’s books for the Children’s Council.

Established in 1957 as an auxiliary women’s organization to the Boone Jaycees, the Boone Service League is open to women ages 21 and older living in the High Country area, including Watauga, Ashe and Avery counties.

In 2011-12, the Boone Service League awarded $7,000 in grants to eight High Country organizations and presented two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. Boone Service League members also hold food and supplies drives, volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program and provide financial assistance for families in crisis.

Support the league’s efforts by attending the Dec. 1 Holiday Market, held from 8 to 11 a.m. in conjunction with the Watauga Education Foundation’s annual Flapjack Flip at Watauga High School.

The Boone Service League openly seeks new members who are interested in providing much-needed service while meeting new friends. For more information about the Boone Service League, visit www.booneserviceleague.org or find the organization on Facebook at www.facebook.com/booneserviceleague.
