Jan. 16, 2015. On Jan. 15, investigators with the Boone Police Department responded to Deerfield Ridge Assisted Living on Bamboo Road in Boone to investigate the death of Louise Presnell Cornett, 87.

Cornett lived at Deerfield Ridge. There is information and some evidence to believe that injuries leading to Ms. Cornett’s death resulted from a fall.

“We are working together with the staff of Deerfield Ridge, the local medical examiner, the Watauga County District Attorney, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation,” Boone Police Captain Andy Le Beau said in a statement. “At this time there is no foul play suspected by the Deerfield Ridge Staff. In fact, surveillance video shows staff members coming to her aid. How Ms. Cornett fell is a focal point of our investigation, and we are working to provide answers. We intend to do a thorough investigation, but do not anticipate it being a lengthy process”
