Blue Ridge Electric, Appalachian Regional Healthcare Team Up to Help BRE Members Get Healthy

Aug. 13, 2012. The health fair is Tuesday, Aug. 14, and is being held from 7 to 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Electric’s Watauga district office located at 2492 US Hwy 421 S, Boone. This special event offers both free and reduced cost services, providing much more than your typical health fair so Blue Ridge Electric members are encouraged to attend.

Advance reservations are required for the complete blood work testing available at a drastically reduced cost of just $25 (normally up to $400) which was made possible by a grant from the Blue Ridge Electric Members Foundation. Blood work tests require fasting and are limited to the first 200 who call 268-8960 to make an appointment. Special assistance vouchers may be available to qualifying members. These blood work tests include CBC, CMP, Lipid panel, PSA for men and AIC lab work and take just a few minutes to administer.

Even without a blood work reservation, members are encouraged to attend Tuesday’s health fair to take advantage of numerous services and information available from Appalachian Regional Healthcare System! These include: free blood pressure checks, stroke awareness and assessments, COPD information, free blood sugar testing, free vision and hearing screenings, information from Harmony Center for Women’s Health and Vitality, medical research opportunities, and other hospital services and outreach.

The health fair is made possible by an Impact Grant from the Blue Ridge Electric Members Foundation, which is supported by Operation Round Up funds contributed by members of Blue Ridge Electric and funds from the cooperative’s propane and heating fuels subsidiary, Blue Ridge Energies.
