Blowing Rock’s Fourth of July Festival and Parade Kick Off Tomorrow, Saturday, July 6, at 9 a.m.

July 5, 2013. Just because the Fourth of July has officially passed doesn’t mean that the Independence Day celebrations are over. Blowing Rock’s Fourth of July Festival and Parade are taking over main street this weekend, and starting tomorrow the fun is just beginning. 

The day will start off with an adult horseshoe tournament beginning at 9 a.m. at Memorial Park in Blowing Rock, which will include prizes for first, second and third place. 

indexFrom 9:30-11:00 there will be fun for the kids in the park, including park games like sack races, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, face painting, an obstacle course and more, according to Amanda Lugenbell, assistant director of the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority. Starting at 11 a.m. there will be a rock climbing wall and a bounce house obstacle course. 

The event will also include musical entertainment and a clogging showcase which will be held in the park as well.

The 4th of July Parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will travel along the downtown portion of main street. Parking is available for visitors in one of the two parking decks on Wallingford Street and by the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum. Parking is also available along Clark Street and at Blowing Rock School, according to Jennifer Brown, director of Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation. 

Finally, there will be a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. rain or shine at the Blowing Rock Country Club. This event is free and open to the public.
