Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce Declares June to be Gardening Month with A Month of Activities

May 24, 2013. June in Blowing Rock brings out the beauty in gardens and flowers, and the Chamber of Commerce and Garden Club are highlighting nature’s floral show with a series of gardening events including tours, lectures, luncheons, teas and brunch.  Events already scheduled take place on June 10, 17, 18, 21 and 24. Reservations are required and tickets for all events except the Mile of Flowers may be purchased Monday through Friday at the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.

gideon4-tdaMonday, June 10: “Herbs for the Fun of It” Presentation and Luncheon

Pat Collins, president of the Blowing Rock Garden Club, will lead an interactive discussion on how to grow, harvest, store and cook with herbs. Lunch to follow. Green Park Inn, 10:30. $25

Monday, June 17: “Tea Leaves and Bloomers” Tea, Talk and Garden Tour

An informative conversation about flowers currently in bloom, accompanied by tea and scones, followed by a tour of Gideon Ridge Inn gardens. 2:00 p.m. $20

Tuesday, June 18: “Creating Designs for Outdoor Living”

Roger Robertson, owner of The Last Straw, will demonstrate creative and surprising ways to make outdoor living spaces comfortable and desirable. Lemonade and cookies provided. The Last Straw, 1:00 p.m. $5

Friday, June 21: “Mile of Flowers Garden Tour and Symposium”

Third such event hosted by the Blowing Rock Garden Club. Chetola Resort, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Featured speaker: Charles Duell, “Restoration of Middleton Gardens, Oldest Garden in America.” For information and tickets contact Jean at the Blowing Rock Garden Club, 828.295.0901. $45 (includes presentation, box lunch and tea).

Monday, June 24: “Hostas of Blowing Rock” Brunch and Home Garden Tour

Susan Sweet, past president of the Garden Club, will talk about the history, care and feeding of hostas. Brunch preceding and a private garden tour included. Timberlake’s at Chetola, 9:45 a.m. $18
