Oct. 3, 2012. The Ashe County Farmers’ Market is very excited again this year to have the professionally certified barbecue judge and barbecue chef James E. Killian (www.burnt-outbuddies.com / jamesekillian@hotmail.com), a member of the Ashe County Farmers Market, to prepare and cook barbeque pork and barbeque chicken.
James judges in all categories of barbequing – chicken, ribs, whole hog and butts – for the Kansas City Barbeque Association and Memphis in May. In 2008, he was named to the top 10 in the nation as a barbeque chef in the whole hog category. He had been a guest on the Food Channel and the Food Network and participated in the Jack Daniel Contest. Recently James was on the 2011 series of the Barbeque Pitmaster.
The farmers’ market will be serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or as long as it lasts) under the events tent on the grassy area behind the market.
The Menu:
1. For $10, you will receive a generous portion of barbeque pork, cole slaw, baked beans, hushpuppies and a soft drink or water.
2. For $10, you will receive ½ barbeque chicken, cole slaw, baked beans, hushpuppies and a soft drink or water.
3. For $15, you will receive barbeque pork and ½ barbeque chicken, cole slaw, baked beans and hushpuppies.
Smokey Mountain Barbeque Restaurant, South Jefferson Ave., West Jefferson, will be providing the baked beans and hushpuppies.
So come early and shop as usual from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with our local vendors for produce, trees & shrubs, candles, flowers, cheeses, pasture fed meat, baked goods, vinegars and crafts.

All proceeds from this fundraiser go to the Ashe County Farmers Market located on the Backstreet, West Jefferson.
