Oct. 15, 2014. On Thursday, Oct. 23, Appalachian State University’s 2014-15 Performing Arts Series will present Los Lobos at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. The multiple Grammy Award-winning band has been cranking out tunes that combine elements of classic rock, blues, country, folk and R&B into a distinctly unique sound since 1973.

LL_40th_logoNow celebrating 40 years of success, Los Lobos will travel up the mountain to the High Country to share a performance featuring the Grammy-winning album “La Pistola y El Corazon” along with an acoustic set featuring some of the quintet’s greatest hits.

The band features Louie Perez (drums, guitar, percussion, vocals), Steve Berlin (saxophone, percussion, flute, midsax, harmonica, melodica), Cesar Rosas (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Conrad Lozano (bass, guitarron, vocals), David Hidalgo (vocals, guitar, accordion, percussion, bass, keyboards, melodica, drums, violin, banjo) and Enrique “Bugs” Gonzales (drums).

“We have always wanted to present Los Lobos, but we have not had a chance until now,” said Megan Gaugert, director of marketing and public relations of the Office of Arts and Cultural Programs.

“Los Lobos is widely followed and loved. Community members and visitors to our area are a large segment  of the Performing Arts Series audience, and they often tell us that great arts programming presented by the university is key to their quality of life and a major reason why they love living in, or visiting, the High Country. We are also expecting a lot of faculty, staff and students in addition to the community members and visitors.”

The show will start at 8 a.m. at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, located on the campus of Appalachian State University. Tickets for the show are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets purchased using the Pick 5 discount cost $18.40. Tickets may be purchased online here, over the phone at 828-262-4046 or in person at the Schaefer Center Box Office.

“If time allowed, Los Lobos would have loved to participate in workshops and seminars in the community,” Gaugert said. “Since they are on a national tour, they will have to leave Boone after they perform and travel to their next destination.”
