Update: The schedule of homecoming events for Friday, Oct. 10, has been changed due to the weather forecast. The Lip Sync finals and pep rally will be moved to their rain location inside the Holmes Convocation Center. The times will remain the same, with Lip Sync starting at 6 p.m. and the Pep Rally following at 8 p.m.

The bonfire and fireworks originally planned to follow the Pep Rally on Duck Pond Field have been cancelled. The High Country Tuple Crown running of The Knob and The Bonk remain on schedule as of now. Appalachian’s women’s soccer homecoming game against Troy University also remains on schedule as of now.

Sept. 26, 2014. Homecoming weekend for Appalachian State University is almost upon us. With the kickoff event, the 1,200 Pint Homecoming Blood Drive held earlier this week, the events lineup looks to be shaping up to be one of the best years yet as alumni, students, and other members of the Appalachian family prepare for the weekend themed “Home Sweet Home.”

For most, the homecoming football game is the highlight of the weekend. This year’s contest pitting the Mountaineers against Liberty will take place on Oct. 11 with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Tickets are still available for the game and can be purchased at appstatesports.com/tickets, by phone at 828-262-2079 or in person at the ticket office located in the Holmes Convocation Center. But the football game is just one of the exciting events to take place during homecoming weekend.

For ASU students, voting for homecoming king and queen will take place Oct. 3-8, with the winners announced during halftime at the football game.

Finals for the annual Lip Sync competition will take place on Friday, Oct. 8, from 6-8 p.m. followed by the annual Float Building Party starting at 9 p.m. where student groups will build floats to show off during the Homecoming Parade on Saturday before the homecoming football game. The Pep Rally, Bonfire and Fireworks will take place on Duck Pond Field starting at 9 p.m.

To get the community in the Mountaineer spirit, the annual Float Parade will march down King Street starting at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. Prior to the parade, floats will be judged in Raley Parking Lot on campus to determine the winner of the float competition. The parade will march through downtown before ending at Howard Street behind Legends.

After the football game, there will be a Step Show and After Party held at Legends. Homecoming’s annual Step Show is back and hosted by the Panhellenic Council. Come out and watch as some of your local Fraternities and Sororities face off against teams from off the mountain. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the dancing starts at 8:30 p.m. The After Party will be from 11 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. in Legends.

In addition to the events planned for the students and campus community, there are also various events planned for Appalachian alumni and friends. To view these events, click here.
