Jan. 23, 2015. An Appalachian State University student died in a multi-car accident on Thursday evening, said Boone Police Capt. Andy LeBeau on Friday morning.

The crash occurred on N.C. 105 near the Ross auto dealership and Ingles grocery store after a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle head on, killing the driver, LeBeau said.

LeBeau said that alcohol or drugs aren’t suspected at this point, but blood tests are being conducted during the investigation.

LeBeau said investigators will consult with the District Attorney’s Office about potential charges.

“So far nobody has been charged,” LeBeau said. “We still have to figure why the [centerline was crossed].”

LeBeau said the name of the deceased and name of the driver of the other vehicle, who wasn’t seriously injured, should be released by this afternoon.

“I am getting ready to call the dad and make sure that all of the family has been notified before we release the name,” LeBeau said.
