Summer Arts Camp Featuring Missoula Children’s Theatre’s Secret Garden Keeping Registration Open

June 13, 2012. The Watauga Arts Council opens registration for its annual Summer Arts Camp, featuring Missoula Children’s Theatre, which will take place June 25-30. It will be held this year at Watauga High School Auditorium. The Arts Camp is open to rising first through rising tenth graders and features workshops in storytelling, music, improvisation, the visual arts and more.

The featured highlight of the arts camp is a production of The Secret Garden, which children will rehearse throughout the week and then perform for the community on Saturday, June 30 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Registration is $175 for the first child (which includes two tickets to the final production and a complimentary DVD), and $150 for each additional child in a family. Scholarships are available for families in need.

The Secret Garden, an original Missoula Children’s Theatre rendition, is a joyful retelling of a story of hope and celebration and all good things in life. Mistress Mary Quite Contrary embarks on a journey from India to her uncle’s home in England. Along the way she makes friends with the hilarious Canadian Geese and the colorful Giant Bugs that Rock. In time, she learns to appreciate everything around her, including the Moor Animals and the helpful Fireflies. Add to that a good healthy dose of caring, and what happens? Colin, Martha, Archibald – well the whole household – begin to enjoy the return of health and happiness in a garden carefully tended…until it blossoms once more.
