Annual Beech Mountain Trick-or-Treat Event, Buckeye Recreation Halloween Party Takes Place Oct. 25

By Emma Speckman

Oct. 24, 2014. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the town of Beech Mountain invites children and adults to participate in a Halloween trick-or-treat event. The event is free for children 10 years old and younger. Children should meet at 5 p.m. at the town hall to board a caravan that will take them to several destinations on their way to the Halloween party in the Buckeye Recreation Center, which begins at 6 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m.

The caravan will stop at businesses, hotels and historical sights around the town of Beech Mountain. Managers and owners at each stop have been asked to prepare 75 bags of candy for the trick-or-treaters.

“These kids are going to make out like bandits,” Sandy Carr, the Buckeye Recreation Center’s director, said.

When they exit the trick-or-treat caravan, a free dinner and plenty of games and activities will greet the children at the Buckeye Recreation Center.

In the past, the Halloween party has been catered more toward older children, with haunted hayrides, scarier decorations and more outdoor events. This year, Carr said, they tried to tailor the event more toward children 10 and younger.

The activities include an apple cider press outside where children can learn to make their own apple cider, trick-or-treat tumble track, a lollipop haystack hunt, bowling and much more.

“We’ve got Hocus Pocus playing widescreen on the tennis court and Casper cartoons going on in the kiddie room,” she said. “We’re excited this year we’ve got a pin-the-wart-on-the-witch. The wart is a Hersey’s Kiss.”

This event has been going on for more than 15 years, Carr said.

“This is a long tradition for this town.”
