A GoFundMe.com page has been created for David Maine, who lived in the apartments at the Riverview Grocery in Western Watauga, which burned down this weekend.

“David Maine, a dear friend of mine, narrowly escaped this fire on March 8, 2015 thanks to his faithful dog. He was able to save his car, but lost everything including his best friend, who was the only fatality of this fire. He will need everything, so I’m hoping to help Dave out with some emergency funds to help him rebuild his life,” wrote Brittany Swain, who created the fundraiser.

The fundraising goal for the David Maine Disaster Relief Fund is $5,000. So far $460 dollars has been raised since the page was recently created.

People might remember Maine as the general manager of the Rascals restaurant atop Beech Mountain. Among those reaching out to help Maine is Danny Carter of The Carter Brothers, which performed at Rascals for years while Maine was the manager.

Carter posted on Facebook that he was coming up to Boone for a week to help his good friend out during these tough times. Citing the fundraising campaign, Carter noted that Maine needs emergency cash to help with clothes, food, gas and “all the incidentals … that one incurs in a tragedy such as this.”

“All I can say is that Dave would be the first person in line to help someone else in the same situation. He is a sweet, sweet man,” Carter wrote. “Thank you my Friends for your help, love and support!”
