With the downpour on Monday, Public Works personnel with the Town of Boone was out and about clearing leaves from the storm drains and the Boone Police Department blocked the U.S. 321 entrance to the Boone Mall, which flooded as usual.

While some people who parked their vehicles in the flooded area of the Boone Mall parking lot were figuring out an escape plan, others were kayaking along Boone Creek Drive in front of Appalachian Mountain Brewery.

In Boone, 2.55 inches of rain fell as of Monday at about 4 p.m, according to RaysWeather.com. For two more examples, Banner Elk saw about 1.87 inches of rain in the same time frame and Valle Crucis saw 2.4 inches of rain.

A flood advisory from the National Weather Service is still in effect on Monday afternoon.

In its forecast discussion on Monday morning, RaysWeather.com stated:

“If ‘rainy days and Mondays always get you down,’ you are in luck. They overlap this week–only one down day! But today is a wet one with 2″-3″ (isolated higher amounts) of rain expected by Tuesday morning. The good news is that rain exits quickly Tuesday with only light rain or drizzle early. Wednesday is the pick of the week with pleasant temperatures and lots of sun. Colder weather arrives for the weekend.”
