June 8, 2012. BANNER ELK — Starting Monday, June 11, weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of N.C. 194 in Watauga County, just east of Banner Elk. The closure of the 1.5 mile section of road will allow crews to perform road work related to the construction of a retaining wall.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour of Pigeon Roost Road, which intersects with N.C. 194 on either side of the work zone. There are no known businesses that will be affected by this closure; the road will remain open to local traffic only.

The closure will be in place for 120 days. The work is expected to be completed by early October 2012.
