New Hours for Watauga County DA’s Office in Boone

Oct. 10, 2013. One of Britt Springer’s duties as Chief Prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office is to hear concerns brought to her by the Watauga County public.

“One concern that kept being brought to my attention was the limited amount of public hours the Watauga County District Attorney’s Office was open,” Springer wrote in release.

Two years ago facing a backlog of felony cases and staff being cut, the District Attorney’s Office made the tough decision to be available for public walk-ins from only 2 to 5 p.m. everyday.

“While most DA’s offices in the state are not open to the public we did not take this step lightly, nor hoped it would be a permanent one.  Attorneys, law enforcement officers, and victims of crimes always had an open door policy with the District Attorney’s Office,” Springer said. “While we are still short staffed, we have made giant strides in the back log of old felony cases and for this reason more man power time can be given to the public in regards to simple traffic tickets and the like.

“I would like to announce that the District Attorney’s Office located in the Watauga County Courthouse in Boone will now have public hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday starting Oct. 14, 2013. The office will be closed from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for lunch.  Addressing private citizens concerns will always be a priority of the District Attorney’s Office.”
