Jan. 6, 2013. Town Manager Scott Fogleman confirmed Monday that Blowing Rock Police Chief Eric Brown submitted his letter of resignation on Dec. 16 for personal reasons.
Brown, who was hired on the force in 1991 and became police chief on Dec. 1, 2006, took leave on Jan. 2 and is currently on vacation until Jan. 17, which will be Brown’s last official day employed as the chief of police.
Fogleman said that Capt. Aaron Miller has assumed Brown’s day-to-day responsibilities. Currently, the application process hasn’t begun. Fogleman said that process is being finalized and will be announced publicly once applications are ready to be accepted sometime by the end of January. The recruitment process will allow for both internal and external applications.
“It won’t just be internal,” Fogleman said.
The position will be listed on the Town of Blowing Rock’s website.
On Monday, Blowing Rock Mayor J.B. Lawrence said he has known Brown since he was in diapers and has “nothing but the highest regard” for the police chief.
“He’s been a good officer and I wish him nothing but the best in the future,” Lawrence said.
