Young Woman Falls To Death at Linville Falls

An 18-year-old woman from Concord slipped on a ledge at Linville Falls and fell 50 to 70 feet to her death on Sunday evening. Funeral services are taking place today at 2 p.m. in Concord.

Blue Ridge Parkway spokesperson Leesa Brandon told media outlets that Kaylee Goodman fell into the Linville River at the Plunge Basin Falls Overlook at 7 p.m. while hiking with friends.

Local and federal responders with Linville, Burke County and the National Park Services participated in rescue efforts, although Brandon believed that Goodman was already deceased by the time paramedics arrived on the scene.

Brandon told the Charlotte Observer that she belived Goodman to be walking off-trail, which isn’t recommended.

Miss Kaylee Elizabeth Goodman, age 18 lost her life after a tragic fall in Linville Gorge Sunday, October 9, 2016.

A service celebrating Kaylee’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday October 12, 2016 in the chapel of Wilkinson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Farley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home until 5:00 p.m.

Kaylee was born June 22, 1998 in Cabarrus County to Tina Louise Lambert Parris and Jerry Wayne Goodman, Jr. She graduated from Central Cabarrus High School and was currently working as a hostess at Olive Garden. Kaylee was a member of West Concord Baptist Church. She enjoyed hobbies such as long boarding, music and reading. She loved trips to the beach and all things Disney. Kaylee was a very special girl who was loved by so many. Her contagious smile and crystal blue eyes will never be forgotten. The grief her family is suffering is beyond measure but they appreciate all the uplifted prayers, words of comfort and acts of kindness being shown by so many people.

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Tina Lambert and husband, Todd of Newton and Jerry Goodman, Jr. and fiancé, Tina Peterson of Concord; sister, Kristen Goodman and fiancé, Kyle Salisbury and their son, Nolan of Concord; grandparents, Larry and Nancy Lambert, Iris Whitaker and Jerry Goodman, Sr., all of Concord; her special canines, Nike and Zoe and the love of her life, Christopher Lancaster.

Kaylee also had a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
