Junior David Peters-Logue led Appalachian State University wrestling over No. 15 Oregon State 25-15 on Nov. 12 by pinning the No. 14 184-pound wrestler in the country. The Mountaineers now rank No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA Poll, tying a program best.

Appalachian State University wrestling tied program history on Tuesday, ranking No. 23 in the nation in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll after taking town No. 15 Oregon State 25-15 at home on Saturday as a part of Mountaineer Duals.

The Mountaineers (2-0) jumped six places this week after the upset, now being the highest ranking member of the Southern Conference in the poll. The No. 23 rank ties the program’s highest ranking in school history, which was set in the final poll of last season. Appalachian is also only one of six schools to have at least two wins and no losses.

App State wrestling’s USA Today/NWCA Top 25 ranking continues to be, outside of App State football being ranked in the FCS poll, the only Appalachian sports team to have been ranked in the top-25 of a major national poll since App State baseball was ranked No. 24 in Baseball America’s May 14, 2012 poll.

Highlighting the Mountaineers home win over Oregon State was junior David Peters-Logue’s (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange) 3:32 pin over the No. 14 184-pounder in the country, Corey Griego. The pin gave Appalachian its third-straight weight class victory after juniors Forrest Przybysz (Jefferson, Ga./Jefferson) and Marcus Johnson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) got wins at the 165- and 174-pound weight classes, respectively.

Also getting wins on the day against 15th-ranked OSU was senior Vito Pasone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./E.L. Meyers) in a thrilling 13-9 decision at the 125-pound match and senior heavyweight Denzel Dejournette (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) in a 12-4 major decision.

The Mountaineers will return to action as they head to the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. on Sunday, Nov. 20. Wrestling returns to Varsity Gym on Sunday, Nov. 27 when Appalachian plays host to North Carolina, who last week was ranked No. 25 in the poll, but dropped slightly to lead the “others receiving votes” category in this week’s poll.

The only way to guarantee a seat for the action this year is by purchasing App State Wrestling season tickets. Prices for adults will be $30/each and for youth fans (ages 3-12) $15/each. Individual match prices will be $7 for adults and $3 for youth except for the Feb. 5 match against Chattanooga, which will be $10 for adults and $3 for youth.

To purchase tickets, visit appstatesports.com/tickets, (828) 262-2079, or visit the Appalachian State athletics ticket office, located inside the Holmes Center. Tickets are also available at the door on matchday.
