Workshops on Renewable Energy Begin: Energy Efficiency, Green Building for Appraisers Friday

energyOriginally published March 19, 2013. A series of workshops focusing on renewable energy, building efficiency, energy savings, green home certifications and the state energy code will begin in April at Appalachian State University.

The series is offered by the Appalachian Energy Center. Some of the workshops have full scholarships available for qualified individuals through the High Country Workforce Development Board through June 30.

In many cases the workshops can be used by licensed professionals to earn continuing education or professional development credits in their field. They include: The American Institute of Architects, Building Performance Institute Inc., N.C. State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors, North Carolina Real Estate Commission and the North Carolina Appraisal Board.

The first workshop in the series is titled Energy Efficiency and Green Building for Appraisers and will be held April 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $270. The workshop will provide timely, accurate, and detailed information on certified energy efficient and green built structures to N.C. real estate appraisers. So far 30 appraisers have signed up.

Additional workshops in June through September will address Distributed Wind Energy, Understanding Electricity Rates to Maximize Energy Savings, Green Guidelines & Certifications for Homes, Solar Thermal Water Heating, Returning to a Common Sense Architecture and others. 

Workshop prices range from $150 to $1,250.
