Sept. 30, 2014. Appalachian State University’s Women’s Theatre Troupe presents the new historical drama “Decision Height” by Meredith Danya Levy in the intimate I.G. Greer Studio Theatre on campus. Levy”s original, award-winning script premiered in Oct. 2012.

“I was able to attend the recent staged reading at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival,” said Dr. Derek Davidson, Appalachian theatre professor and local playwright. “It was a great performance, but I believe the Women’s Troupe will be able to make “Decision Height” truly amazing.”

Savannah Core, who directed the club”s inaugural show, “The Most Massive Woman Wins,” returns to direct this production.

“I can’t express how blessed I feel to have this opportunity,” she said. “To see so many talented women that have a passion for art, history and women’s rights touches me in a way I can’t fully explain. When the cast sat down for the first time and read the script together, we all cried our eyes out. “Decision Height” is hilarious and feisty, and it will break your heart.”

The Women’s Theatre Troupe was founded only a year ago, but has blossomed into a successful interest group and arts organization. “Decision Height” will be the troupe”s third production, following the spring show, “A Part Equal.”

In order to encourage students to work in the arts, the troupe gives opportunities to underclassmen, including non-theatre majors. Opportunities like these have shaped the academic careers of students such as Emma Siplon, club treasurer and actress, who thought college wouldn’t give her a change at artistic expression.

“I auditioned for “The Most Massive Woman Wins” thinking there was no way they’d consider casting a freshman, but they did!” the chemistry/secondary education major said. Siplon has been involved in every club production since, just as other freshmen are discovering their place in the troupe.

The entrance to I.G. Greer Studio Theatre is located on the east side of I.G. Greer Hall below the auditorium. Parking is available after 5 p.m. on campus in faculty/staff lots and after 5:30 p.m. in the College Street Parking Deck near the Belk Library and Information Commons.
